
Comparative Global/Regional Migration and Displacement Challenges: Exploring Scurity & Moral Dimensions in Forming Policy & Civic Responses
On April 13, 2016, the Kozmetsky Center hosted a conference on Comparative Global/Regional Migration & Displacement Challenges: Exploring Security & Moral Dimensions in Forming Policy & Civic Responses, with panels considering the academic and policy dimensions of contemporary migration challenges from a comparative perspective, focusing particularly on issues and case studies in Europe, Eurasia, and U.S.-Mexico/Central America. Experts presented research findings from these regions and considered the moral and security dimensions of migration management. Speakers included St. Edward’s and University of Texas, Austin faculty as well as other distinguished experts of the United States, Europe, and Eurasia. This was the second conference event on transatlantic security funded by a U.S. Department of Education Title VI National Resource Program grant in cooperation with the Center for European Studies and Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies at University of Texas, Austin.

Marshall European Center for Security Studies; Dr. Ioannis Papageorgiou, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki; Dr. Magdalena Lesinska, University of Warsaw; Dr. Katrina Burgess, Fletcher School for Law & Diplomacy at Tufts University; Dr. Amy Liu, University of Texas at Austin; Dr. James Hollifield, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars; Mario Nicolini, Parliament of the World’s Religions – Slovakia; Charles Porter, St. Edward’s University; Fr. Louis Brusatti, St. Edward’s University; and Dr. Edward Williams, University of Arizona. Dr. Sharyl Cross of the Kozmetsky Center moderated the event.
